Europe, Islam, & a Free Press

Copying from one person is called 'plagiarism.' Copying from many people is called 'research.'
But what if I just send you off to read the original? What if I do it again? Huh? What then, smart guy?

Seriously, they're good posts. My own reaction to the Danish cartoon and the Islamic response was, What did the press expect? Just because you may have the freedom and/or legal (not to say moral) right to do something, doesn't mean you ought to do it. Where was the 'freedom of the press' outcry when the editor of either JAMA or the NEJM was fired for publishing an article about the vernacular understanding of various sex-act terms in the midst of Clinton's impeachment? Or the defense of American editorial/political cartoonists who really do satirize (and criticize) our very own government?
