Homer's e-Piscopal Church of Matri-Money
This, the Episcopal church doesn't need. But how can you not be wryly amused?
As a nominal Episcopalian, my thoughts on the Robinson election & consecration were that New Hampshire's Episcopal diocese had the right to chose whomever they wished as their pastoral head, so long as it was an ordained Episcopal priest.
But I also thought that, given the divisiveness of the issue, it would have been pure class for Robinson to have declined his election. The statement would have been made simply by the election itself, and Robinson would have shown a great deal of consideration for the welfare of his flock-elect, of the Episcopal Church in America, and of the Anglican Communion. Oh, well.
It's not that I think Robinson is unfit for his chair. But this is merely going to aggravate those opposed to his consecration. If you're going to minister under the shadow of what some consider a mortal sin, you'd better steer clear of the venial ones.
Still, I haven't started reading Oxford's Very Short Introduction to Theology yet, so what do I know?
